67-year-old celebrated actress Meryl Streep recently appeared in a CNN documentary titled WE WILL RISE to discuss her work with US First Lady Michelle Obama’s LET GIRLS LEARN Initiative.
Streep and Obama have traveled all through the summer to spread awareness about womens’ rights and womens’ equality. In a clip from the documentary where Streep is in Morocco with Obama and her daughters Sasha and Malia, Streep says profoundly: “What brings me here is this issue of equality for women and girls. And he didn’t care anything about that, but she wasn’t deemed capable of making that decision under law. It’s an issue shared across cultures.”
She continues: “I’m interested in these girls and their aspirations and how things have changed for their mothers, their grandmothers, how they will change for the daughters of these girls.” Watch a clip from CNN’s WE WILL RISE documentary below and let us know what you think:
