‘Gossip Girl’ showrunner Joshua Safran who also worked on the original ‘Gossip Girl,’ says that the HBO Max version isn’t a reboot but “an extension!”
After photos came out yesterday of the new cast sitting on the steps of the MET, many GG fans have been comparing the new show to the original – but Safran says DON’T!
In a post to his Instagram Stories today, Safran writes: “Okay, I want to explain why I say this is not a reboot. A) The cast aren’t playing the original characters B) It exists in the same world as the original C) The same creators and one of the original writers are making it D) No one involved with it is calling it a reboot!” Safran continued, sounding a little unhinged: “Better Call Saul is not a reboot. The Power spin-offs are not reboots. This show falls somewhere between those two. But I’m just grateful people are intrigued enough to write about us! I really wanted this to feel like an extension and in no way a reboot. So it’s an evolution of the story, not a retread. That said, there are echoes. Constance and St. Judes are still Constance and St. Judes, after all!” Wow…okay Mr. Safran…take a look at his unhinged posts below and let us know: WHAT DO YOU THINK THE NEW GOSSIP GIRL WILL BE LIKE? DO YOU HOPE IT GIVES THE ORIGINAL JUSTICE?! xoxo
