Yesterday, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex posted a joint statement and call to action on their Archewell website. Their message was clear: they not only expressed concern for those in need but also highlighted many charities doing good work around these three crises: the pandemic crisis, Haiti earthquake relief efforts, postevacuation problems in Afghanistan. The Windsors would never issue such an important statement like this one without talking about themselves first because it has taken them so long to admit that there is anything wrong with our world at all-but Harry and Meghan are willing leaders who want us to take care of the planet we live in together as humans instead of pointing fingers or making excuses!
This of course hasn’t gone unnoticed with Prince Harry’s biographer Angela Levin slamming the couple to The Daily Mail: “I think Harry and Meghan’s grandiose, comfy and caring comments about the situation in Afghanistan, the disaster in Haiti and new Covid variants is another example of them trying to set up some sort of alternate woke royal family. Like most of their “compassionate” gestures there is no indication about what they themselves will do and whether any donations will be going through Archewell Foundation. Their comment that they want to “alleviate suffering among those we know and those we may never meet – that will prove our humanity,” sounds so similar to their recent comment we must be compassionate “to those we know and those we don’t know” that makes it sound equally phoney.””
Imagine the reaction if Will and Kate (aka Meghan Markle’s former self) had issued a joint statement about these crises. We would hear for weeks on end how perfect they are, will be King and Queen one day soon, etcetera. But when it was Harry with his new wifey there is nitpicking like “there is no indication of what they themselves will do or whether any donations through their foundation.” Maybe people just don’t want to give to charity because it sounds too much like work… The Sussexes put links so that we could donate directly though!
