But hold up, folks! Penn’s here to clear the air and set the record straight. In an interview with GQ, he explains that his comments were blown way out of proportion. He wasn’t trying to kill the vibe or anything, he just wanted to talk about the culture of Hollywood and how it can be pretty sketchy sometimes.
“I mean, come on,” says Penn. “We all know that Hollywood has a history of being pretty exploitative and shady, especially when it comes to those kinds of scenes. So I just wanted to have a chat about it and maybe see if we could, I don’t know, do better?”
And it wasn’t easy, let me tell you. Penn was super nervous to bring it up with the showrunner, Sera Gamble. But when he finally did, he was pleasantly surprised by her response.
“I was like, ‘Phew!’ You know what I mean?” laughs Penn. “But seriously, Sera was amazing about it. And honestly, if I could go back in time, I would have set that boundary a lot sooner.”
But now that he’s spoken out about it, Penn’s a little worried about the fallout. Will it impact his career? Will he get fewer roles because he’s not down to get freaky on camera all the time? Only time will tell, my friends.
And speaking of time, how many seasons of You does Penn think there should be? Well, he’s not sure. But one thing’s for sure – he’s not planning on being the creepy stalker guy forever.
“I mean, don’t get me wrong, it’s been a wild ride,” says Penn. “But at some point, you gotta move on, you know? Maybe start a rom-com or something. Or a musical! I’ve always wanted to do a musical.”
