Madonna is on a mission to make a pesky class action lawsuit vanish faster than one of her on-stage costume changes.
The 65-year-old “Like a Prayer” pop diva is striking back with new legal documents obtained by TMZ, in response to a class action suit that accuses her of the ultimate pop star crime: tardiness.
Back in January, a man named Michael Fellows decided he’d had enough of Madonna’s fashionable lateness and sued her, hoping to rally other disgruntled fans into a class action suit. His gripe? She showed up fashionably late to her December Celebration Tour concerts in Brooklyn, New York.
But Madonna isn’t having any of it. According to her, her fans know the drill. The Queen of Pop’s concerts are practically a time zone unto themselves, and if the ticket says 8:30 PM, you can bet she won’t hit the stage until around 10:30 PM. It’s all part of the experience.
The lawsuit points out that Madonna started her act a whole two hours late, but come on, what true fan expects the Material Girl to run on anything but “Madonna Time”? As her legal docs put it, if you’re a die-hard fan, you know her shows run for over two hours and you bring a packed dinner and maybe a sleeping bag because you know she’s going to start the show way past your bedtime.
Madonna is now asking a judge to dismiss the lawsuit. So, unless Michael Fellows has a time machine to make Madonna punctual, it looks like this case might just have to take a holiday.
