Eva Mendes, aka the effortlessly cool 50-year-old Hitch star and half of the Ryan Gosling Dream Team, took a break from being fabulous to chat with Drew Barrymore on The Drew Barrymore Show this past Thursday (Sept. 19). And spoiler alert: they got real about the chaotic magic of mom life.
First of all, Eva’s got two little humans — Esmeralda, 10, and Amada, 8 — with her equally famous and genetically blessed partner, Ryan “Hey Girl” Gosling. Drew, who’s mom to daughters Olive (11) and Frankie (10), kicked off the convo by admitting that when she became a mom, she felt, well, kind of like a lost sock in the laundry. (You know, that one sock that’s somewhere in the universe but definitely not in your drawer.)
“I felt a little lost when I had kids,” Drew said. “I was like, um, how do I raise these mini people and also be a functioning human myself? What about you, Eva? Was your brain also trying to reboot like a 90s computer?”
Eva, in true cool-mom fashion, responded like a zen master. “Honestly, I didn’t feel lost. I was like, ‘I got this.’ Then, BAM! Plot twist! I did feel lost. It’s like, who am I now that my kids are kinda independent mini adults? But you know, they’re 8 and 10, so obviously they’re not making dinner or filing taxes yet, but they’re doing their own thing.”
Eva continued, “They don’t need me for every little thing anymore, so now it’s like, what do I do with my hands? But I love talking to them about literally everything, so I’m basically living the dream.”
Also, important fashion note for the day: Eva Mendes was slaying in Stella McCartney. As if there was any doubt.
