Robbie Williams, the man who gave us Angels and an eternal excuse to bust out jazz hands, has come clean about why he turned down the gig of a lifetime—performing at King Charles’ coronation. Spoiler alert: It wasn’t because he couldn’t find his crown polish.
The 50-year-old British singer (and part-time cheeky monkey) is currently on a whirlwind press tour for Better Man, his upcoming movie musical. In true Robbie fashion, he spilled the tea during an appearance on Watch What Happens Live.
But wait, there’s more! Robbie and his equally fabulous wife, Ayda Field, also struck some regal poses at the Empire State Building on January 14. (When you skip the King’s party, you might as well hang out at New York’s iconic tower instead. Makes sense, right?)
So, why did Robbie skip out on serenading the newly crowned King Charles? Drumroll, please…
“There was a reason,” Robbie confessed, channeling his inner James Bond-level intrigue. “I was working. I got something I couldn’t turn down because of money.”
Money! Glorious, shiny, in-your-face cash. It’s the same stuff that makes the world go round—and apparently makes Robbie miss out on tea with royalty.
Andy Cohen, ever the master of witty one-liners, chimed in with, “And contracts.” Yes, Andy, we all know you never break up with your wallet.
Robbie Williams turned down the chance to sing at a coronation because he was too busy being Better Man—literally. Watch the full interview below for all the juicy bits, but don’t blame us if you suddenly crave a Robbie playlist marathon.
Moral of the story: Even kings can’t compete with a paycheck. Sorry, Charles.
