Kelly Clarkson Talks About Carrie Underwood Becoming A Judge On ‘American Idol’

Kelly Clarkson is spilling the tea, and it’s hotter than a Texas summer! The American Idol alumna has weighed in on Carrie Underwood’s return to the show, and let’s just say – she’s thrilled (cue dramatic gasp)!

ICYMI (which, seriously, where have you been?), back in August, the powers that be at American Idol announced that Carrie, the queen of country and the undisputed champion of season four, is sliding into Katy Perry’s judging chair. That’s right – Katy’s taking a break from wearing costumes that could double as a piñata, and Carrie is here to bring some country sass!

Now, you’re probably thinking, “Ooooh, is Kelly Clarkson throwing shade?” Absolutely not! She’s too busy belting out bangers and sipping on her tea (literally, she probably has an iced tea sponsorship in the works) to be anything but supportive.

When asked if she’s on board with Carrie stepping into the role, Kelly responded like a true southern belle: “Oh honey, that’s genius!” she told E! News with the enthusiasm of someone who just found out there’s unlimited breadsticks at Olive Garden. “Who better than someone who not only won the whole dang thing but now owns enough sparkly dresses to blind a small village?”

But Kelly didn’t stop there. She went on to point out that Carrie’s no nonsense, ‘I’ve been there, done that, and bought the rhinestone-covered t-shirt’ attitude is exactly what these contestants need. “She’s going to be honest with them, which is great because someone has to tell them when they’re trying to hit notes only dolphins can hear,” Kelly quipped.

And the best part? Kelly sees Carrie as living proof that dreams really do come true. “It’s like, ‘Look, there she is. A living legend. So, yeah, you can dream big… just maybe leave the weird outfits to Katy Perry.”

With that kind of endorsement from America’s original sweetheart, it sounds like American Idol is in for a wild, boot-scootin’ season! Will Carrie bring the sass, the sparkle, and the sensible country wisdom? You bet your cowboy boots she will!

Now, if only Kelly and Carrie could team up for a duet… that would be the plot twist we all deserve.
