Stephen Fry has finally explained why he and his husband, Elliott Spencer, are harder to spot in the wild than Bigfoot with a Netflix subscription.
If you weren’t aware (which, let’s be honest, is totally understandable since they rarely step out together), the 67-year-old British national treasure has been married to Elliott, 36, since 2015. Their love story began in 2012 at a mutual friend’s party—presumably one where Stephen charmed the room with his wit and Elliott realized, “Yep, that’s the one.”
But despite their long-lasting relationship, the two are almost never seen out together. Are they part-time spies? Do they have an invisibility cloak? The world demanded answers, and Stephen finally delivered.
During an appearance on The Jonathan Ross Show, Stephen spilled the tea. Apparently, their evenings are less “glitzy Hollywood affair” and more “wholesome elderly couple in their prime.”
“We have an early supper, watch Jeopardy! and go to bed,” he admitted, proving that even legendary comedians have a soft spot for trivia and an aggressively reasonable bedtime.
He also revealed that they’re not exactly Hollywood socialites, saying, “We don’t go to Hollywood parties much.” Translation: They’d rather be at home in comfy clothes than making small talk with actors who are pretending they don’t know each other’s net worths.
For those keeping track, it’s been nearly six years since Stephen and Elliott last walked a red carpet—May 2019, at the Rocketman UK premiere. And honestly? It seems like they’re thriving.
Moral of the story? If you’re hoping to see Stephen and Elliott on a date night out, your best bet might be lurking near the Jeopardy! studio… or just accepting that they’ve mastered the art of staying in.
