Pixar’s Chief Creative Officer just spilled the beans on the possibility of live-action versions of your favorite Pixar films!
Peter Docter, who has been the big cheese at Pixar since 2018 after years of brewing magic at the studio, recently chatted about whether the animation powerhouse, owned by Disney, has any plans to bring their animated wonders to the real world.
And his answer? Well, it’s a hoot. “No, and this might come back to bite me in the butt, but it kind of bugs me,” he confessed to TIME, probably while munching on some Pixar-branded popcorn. “I enjoy making movies that are original and unique. Remaking them? Snooze fest.”
Pete then spilled more tea on why you won’t see a live-action Buzz Lightyear anytime soon. “It’d be a nightmare! So much of what we create only works because of the animated world rules,” he explained. “Imagine a human walking into a floating house. You’d be like, ‘Wait, what? Houses weigh a ton! How are balloons doing the heavy lifting here?’ But throw in a cartoon guy and everyone’s like, ‘Sure, makes sense!’ Our worlds just don’t swap over to live-action easily.”
In case you missed it, there’s more buzz around Pixar. Rumor has it they’re cooking up more sequels, depending on how Inside Out 2 does at the box office. No pressure, right?
Speaking of Inside Out 2, it’s hitting theaters THIS Friday (June 12). Get your popcorn ready because it’s going to be an emotional rollercoaster!
