Oops, Wrong Michelle! Destiny’s Child’s Michelle Williams Reads Fan Mail Meant for That Other Michelle Williams

Michelle Williams (the one who sings “Survivor,” not the one who survives emotionally devastating movie roles) just received some fan mail that took a very unexpected turn.

While starring on Broadway in Death Becomes Her, the Destiny’s Child legend (yes, LEGEND) received a heartfelt letter from a devoted fan. One problem? The fan thought she was… Oscar-nominated actress Michelle Williams.

Michelle (our Michelle, not Manchester by the Sea Michelle) took to social media to share the mix-up, reading the letter aloud with a mix of grace, humor, and just the right amount of “Y’all, really?” energy.

“I received this letter, and I can’t wait to dig in,” she said, probably knowing in her heart that foolishness was about to unfold.

The letter began sweetly enough:

“Dear Michelle Williams, I hope this letter finds you in great spirits. My name is Philip, and I have been an avid fan of your incredible performances in both film and theater.”

So far, so good. Michelle has, in fact, graced both stage and screen. But then? Oh, then came the twist.

“‘Your work in movies like Blue Valentine, Manchester by the Sea, or The Greatest Showman has deeply moved me and many others, showcasing your exceptional talent.’”

At this point, Michelle had to have known. The jig was up. This fan was most definitely writing to the other Michelle Williams—the one who was tap-dancing alongside Hugh Jackman, not the one harmonizing with Beyoncé.

The best part? Philip included photos for her to sign… and, you guessed it, every single one was of the wrong Michelle.

Michelle (again, the right one) took it all in stride, laughing as she held up the evidence. “This is absolutely brilliant,” she said, probably wondering how many other misplaced fan letters have been floating around in the mail system.

She also confirmed that actual actress Michelle Williams is aware of the mix-up and that they’re working on meeting up to exchange notes—possibly to start a support group for people constantly mistaken for someone else.

One thing’s for sure: Destiny’s Child Michelle handled this with humor, class, and the patience of someone who has definitely been through this before.
