Jonathan Anderson is packing up his sketchbooks, rolling up his mood boards, and saying “adiós” to Loewe after a glorious 11-year reign as its creative genius. Yes, fashionistas, the man who turned the Spanish luxury house into the go-to brand for artsy, eccentric, and “Wait, is that a handbag or a sculpture?” designs is stepping down.
In a heartfelt Instagram post (because all major life decisions must be announced via a well-filtered grid post), Jonathan got all sentimental about his time at Loewe.
“Eleven years ago, I was handed the keys to this 179-year-old fashion palace and told, ‘Do something fabulous,’” he began, probably while wearing an impeccably tailored sweater. “From day one, I was surrounded by an atelier of absolute geniuses who somehow made all my wild ideas come to life. Seriously, I’ve asked them to make handbags that look like giant eggs, shoes that resemble deflated balloons, and outfits that belong in a museum—and they just said, ‘Sure, boss.’”
Jonathan went on to reflect on his time at Loewe, realizing that building a brand isn’t just about one epic runway show (though, let’s be honest, his were always epic). “It’s about season after season of pushing the boundaries while making people ask, ‘Do I need a sweater with hands attached to it? Probably!’”
He also gave a special shoutout to the Craft Prize, an initiative he launched to spotlight old-school craftsmanship—because, apparently, not everyone is glued to their phone 24/7, and some people still know how to actually make things with their hands.
“Since the beginning, I wanted Loewe to be more than just another luxury label—I wanted it to be a cultural movement,” Jonathan continued. “It’s been an honor to collaborate with artists, galleries, and people who bring creativity to life. To everyone who bought a piece, wore a piece, or even just double-tapped a Loewe post—thank you! You made this possible.”
And in true dramatic fashion (pun intended), he signed off with a statement worthy of an Oscar speech:
“They say all good things must come to an end, but I disagree.” (Cue the slow clap.) “While my chapter is closing, Loewe’s story will keep dazzling the world for years to come.”
While Loewe has yet to reveal who’s stepping into Jonathan’s ultra-fashionable shoes, his exit comes just after Donatella Versace shocked the fashion world by announcing her own departure from Versace.
Fashion week is turning into Fashion Weak because our faves are leaving, and we are not okay. 💔
