Jason Kelce recently spilled the beans about his retirement plans from his football career, and trust me, it’s a rollercoaster of emotions with a dash of humor.
In a chat with People Magazine, the elder Kelce, who also happens to be the brother of Taylor Swift’s boyfriend Travis (yeah, that guy!), said, “Let’s keep it real, the last four years I’ve been tempted to hang up my cleats after every season.”
Jason admitted that keeping his spirits high was like trying to keep a balloon from flying away in a windstorm.
“The reality is it’s super hard to get there. And even after we lost the Super Bowl,” he added, with a dramatic sigh, “I wanted to come back and play for another Super Bowl. Because who doesn’t want another chance to wear those ridiculously shiny pants on the big stage?”
But then he dropped a truth bomb: “But picturing another 17 games on top of playoffs was like imagining running a marathon after a buffet—it just wasn’t happening.”
The 36-year-old athlete, who probably wakes up with more creaks than an old haunted house, continued, “Those past three years, I felt like I was still the rockstar of the field, ready to roll. I could still play at the level I wanted to and compete like a champ.”
“And after stepping away this year, it just became glaringly obvious—like, neon sign in the dark obvious—that my body was screaming, ‘Dude, seriously, stop!’ I don’t think I could play another season the way I want to and in a way that’s going to keep me happy,” he concluded with the wisdom of a man who’s seen one too many post-game ice baths.
