Netflix is about to drop The Thursday Murder Club and it stars none other than Dame Helen Mirren and King of Suave Pierce Brosnan, aka the coolest retirees you’ll wish were your neighbors.
Netflix just blessed us with the first look at this new cinematic chaos — based on Richard Osman’s bestselling book that your mom definitely recommended to you at least five times.
The plot? It’s giving Golden Girls meets CSI. Helen (Elizabeth) and Pierce (Ron) team up with their ride-or-die crew — Ibrahim (played by Sir Ben “yes, SIR” Kingsley) and Joyce (Celia Imrie) — to solve cold cases for fun. You know, just your average bingo-night activities. Until… BAM! A real, fresh murder happens right under their very stylish orthopedic shoes. Now, it’s personal.
Also appearing in the first-look pics: Naomi Ackie and Henry Lloyd-Hughes, who are there to remind the retirees that “youth” is technically still a thing.
Helen, being the absolute legend that she is, told IconicHipster.com that getting the gang together on set felt like, and I quote, “Gosh, guys, isn’t this amazing?” Which is literally how we feel when our group chat actually agrees on dinner plans.
Fun fact: Helen manifested this role. Yup. She read the book and was like, “That’s mine.” Girl boss energy!
“I very, very rarely feel that,” she said, probably while sipping tea and casually winning an Oscar somewhere, “but I have to confess, I did feel that this time.”
Important life update: The Thursday Murder Club is directed by Chris Columbus — aka the guy who directed Home Alone and Harry Potter — so you know this is about to be an absolute banger.
Mark your calendars: August 28th = movie night with your favorite fake British grandparents.
Oh, and if you can’t get enough of Helen and Pierce being iconic together, they’re also in Mobland on Paramount+, alongside Tom Hardy (who is probably brooding handsomely in a corner somewhere). New episodes every Sunday. Your weekend plans? Officially sorted.
