After the 2024 election, internet rumor factories decided to cook up a piping hot, completely made-up story about Ella Emhoff—yes, that Ella Emhoff, the trendsetting 25-year-old model and daughter of Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff. Apparently, some people out there thought, “What better way to pass the time than create a fake story about Ella having a ‘breakdown’?” And, spoiler alert: it was nonsense.
The rumor mill really kicked into high gear after Vice President Kamala Harris lost the election. Somehow, these totally-not-true whispers started circulating, suggesting that poor Ella was at home having a meltdown worthy of its own soap opera scene. But guess who wasn’t having it? Ella herself, who swiftly shut it down with the kind of “Are you serious?” energy we all aspire to.
However, if that wasn’t enough, Ella’s mom, Kerstin Emhoff (the ex-wife of Doug Emhoff, who is fully over all this nonsense), took to social media to throw a good old-fashioned mom hammer on the rumors. Picture a mom defending her kid at a soccer game, but online.
Kerstin didn’t just brush it off—she tweeted her full disdain, saying, “More MAGA bs against my family. Leave my kids alone!!!” Like, if anyone needed a reminder that Mom Energy can move mountains, here it is. She added that Ella was actually spending the day with her, probably being fabulous and unbothered, as per usual. Kerstin wrapped it up by reminding everyone that it’s actually okay to not be okay, which honestly might be the most relatable thing we’ve heard from someone adjacent to D.C. in a while.
