Alexander Skarsgård and Jack McBrayer just redefined “cutest couple” on the red carpet, and no, we’re not crying, you are.
The dynamic duo (aka your new favorite sitcom waiting to happen) hit up the premiere of their new Apple TV+ series Murderbot on Monday, April 28, at Regal Union Square in NYC, and let’s just say… if friendship goals were a competition, these two would win all ten episodes of this show and a Lifetime Achievement Award.
Alexander Skarsgård rolled up looking like Neo took a Gap Year. Seriously — the man was serving Matrix realness with a black wool Calvin Klein trench coat so dramatic, it probably has its own IMDb page. Add in some slim trousers, a white shirt crisp enough to slice through time, and some wired sunglasses that scream, “I just hacked into your mainframe and downloaded every soap opera ever.” Iconic.
Meanwhile, Jack McBrayer looked like he was just thrilled to be there — probably because he’s always thrilled to be anywhere. It’s called joy, look it up.
The pair posed like it was prom night at Sci-Fi High: arm-in-arm, beaming like their moms were in the back yelling “JUST ONE MORE, BOYS!” If you’ve ever wanted to see a tall brooding murder machine and the human equivalent of a Pixar sidekick strike adorable poses, this was your moment.
Oh right, the show!
Murderbot is about a security robot (played by Skarsgård, of course) that gains free will, which is cool, except all it wants to do is watch soap operas and not babysit humans. Unfortunately, it’s assigned to protect scientists on a very sketchy planet, which means… goodbye drama reruns, hello danger and existential dread. Honestly, same.
Based on Martha Wells’ beloved book series, Murderbot is a sci-fi action comedy that’s part space opera, part emotional breakdown with lasers. It drops on Apple TV+ May 16, and Season 1 will have 10 glorious episodes of robot angst, human weirdness, and hopefully more prom poses.
Also on the carpet were fellow castmates David Dastmalchian, Noma Dumezweni, Sabrina Wu, Tattiawna Jones, Tamara Podemski, Clark Gregg, and Anna Konkle — aka the coolest classroom in the universe. But let’s be honest, this red carpet belonged to Alex and Jack.
Long live Murderbot and long live this bromance.
Wanna go to prom with this show on May 16? You know where to find it.
