Adam Brody and Leighton Meester are like the ultimate 2000s fanfiction couple come to life. Seriously, if you told 2004 that Seth Cohen and Blair Waldorf would be married, they’d have passed out right into their bowl of ramen while watching “The O.C.” on DVD.
But here we are! Not only are they married, but they’ve got two kids. That’s right, they’re actual adults now, complete with mini humans running around the house. Adam, now 44 (yep, we’re all getting older), hopped onto Dax Shepard’s “Armchair Expert” podcast to spill the tea on what it’s like living, working, and co-managing their Seth and Blair empire together.
So, how did these two TV legends end up doing life together? It started in 2013, when they went from co-stars in the movie of life to dating IRL. A year later, they locked it down with some wedding bells. Fast forward, and now they have a daughter who’s nine and a son who’s four. (Spoiler: they’re probably cooler than you and me already.)
But their teamwork doesn’t stop at diaper duty. “We’re each other’s managers,” Adam says. “Everything goes through us. I mean, we even have the same two agents.” You can just imagine the breakfast table conversations: “Honey, pass the toast and also, should I take this role?”
The couple has also teamed up for multiple projects, because why not? From Leighton’s sitcom Single Parents to their recent movie River Wild, they’ve managed to work together without giving off major “Do we have to do everything together?” vibes.
But Adam’s favorite thing about Leighton? She’s got this charming I-have-no-idea-who-you-are approach to Hollywood. According to Adam, while he’s all, “OMG, that’s THE Steven Spielberg,” Leighton’s like, “Steven who now?” Adam reassures us, though, that Leighton’s apparent aloofness is what makes her such a badass artist. “She’s a poet, she has a depth and a read on material that is always illuminating,” Adam gushes. So, while she might not know who’s on the guest list, she knows how to nail a script.
Adam also revealed how they pick projects like they’re choosing a pizza topping. “I’ll be like, ‘Oh, this director’s name sounds fancy. You’ll probably want in on this.’ Or, ‘Never heard of this guy… maybe pass, but give it a read just in case.’” Teamwork makes the dream work, apparently.
As for Adam’s latest project? He’s starring alongside Kristen Bell in Nobody Wants This, which hits Netflix on September 26. And if the title is any indication, let’s hope somebody wants it—because we’re ready for all the Seth Cohen nostalgia and Brody-Meester greatness we can get!
