Zoe Saldana has officially responded to the internet’s latest episode of “Digging Up Old Tweets and Setting Everything on Fire.”
Her Emilia Pérez co-star, Karla Sofía Gascón, has been at the center of controversy after some, uh… less-than-stellar past tweets resurfaced. The 52-year-old Oscar-nominated actress (who is probably wishing she had set her Twitter to self-destruct by now) has already been dealing with backlash over some comments she made earlier in the week. And now? Well, the internet has pulled out its magnifying glass again.
During a Q&A in London on Friday (January 31), Zoe, 46, was asked about the whole situation, and let’s just say—she’s not exactly thrilled.
Zoe’s Official Mood: “Sad.” Like, Very Sad.
“I’m still processing everything that has transpired in the last couple of days, and I’m sad,” Zoe shared, looking like someone just told her WiFi was down indefinitely.
She went on to explain, “It makes me really sad because I don’t support [it], and I don’t have any tolerance for any negative rhetoric towards people of any group.” In other words: Bad tweets = not cool, period.
Zoe then shifted into what we can only describe as an Oscar-worthy speech about inclusivity, teamwork, and why can’t we all just get along?
“My experience and my interactions with everyone in this film were about inclusivity, collaboration, and equity,” she explained. “And it just saddens me.”
At this point, we can only assume a single, dramatic tear rolled down her cheek while a sad violin played in the distance.
Meanwhile, Karla Was MIA
In a plot twist absolutely no one found surprising, Karla Sofía Gascón—who was supposed to be at this Q&A—decided to sit this one out. Maybe she was avoiding the inevitable awkwardness. Maybe she suddenly remembered she had an urgent dentist appointment. We may never know.
Zoe: This Is Not the Vibe We Wanted
“It saddens me that we are having to face this setback right now,” Zoe continued, proving once again that “saddens” was her word of the day.
But ever the professional, she pivoted back to the movie itself, telling the audience, “Look, we worked hard on this film, the message is important, and y’all should still go watch it.”
She wrapped things up with a heartfelt, please-don’t-cancel-us moment:
“All that I can attest is that all of us that came together to tell this story, we came together for love and for respect and curiosity, and we will continue to spread that message. That’s all we can say right now. Thank you.”
And with that, Zoe Saldana dropped the mic (metaphorically) and probably logged off Twitter for the foreseeable future.
Moral of the story? The internet never forgets, old tweets have consequences, and Zoe Saldana is absolutely not in the mood for this drama.
