DJ Zedd, the 35-year-old master of bangers, nearly threw in the towel and hung up his turntables for good! That’s right – the man responsible for turning our daily lives into a club scene almost called it quits! 😱
Last Friday (August 30), Zedd dropped his new album Telos, his first in nearly a decade. A DECADE, people! In a recent chat, Zedd spilled the beans that this album was nearly his grand mic drop! (No, really, he almost walked off the music stage like, “That’s it. I’m out. Peace.” 🎤🚶♂️)
“Another meaning of Telos is ‘the end,’ and for a hot minute, I thought, ‘Maybe this is it. Maybe I’ve hit my last high note. Maybe the only beats I’ll make from now on are in my kitchen with a blender.’” Zedd told People while probably clutching an energy drink. “I was fried, toasty, cooked – whatever you want to call it. I was running on fumes, and musically? My tank was EMPTY. I gave everything to this album like it was the last bag of Doritos at a party.”
He continued, “Perfection takes time, and I was working on this album like I was Michelangelo painting the Sistine Chapel, but instead of paint, I was using sick beats. It took so much work, I was starting to see sound waves in my sleep.”
But don’t freak out just yet! Zedd didn’t pull a Beyoncé and vanish from the music scene. No, my friends, after finishing Telos, he took a much-needed week off. A WHOLE week, people. (You know, like a vacation but with fewer margaritas and more existential pondering.)
“I took one week to just…breathe,” Zedd said, sounding like he finally rediscovered what fresh air felt like. “And guess what? I’ve already started writing new music! So no, the party’s not over. It’s just getting started again!”
Zedd’s not done making bops, and your playlists are safe. Oh, and by the way, Telos features a star-studded lineup, including Bea Miller, John Mayer (yes, THAT John Mayer – probably with a guitar solo that melts faces), Remi Wolf, Grey, and Muse! So, go check it out and remember, we almost lost Zedd to burnout, but like the musical superhero he is, he rose from the ashes of exhaustion.
