Taylor Swift graced the stage once again for the latest stop on her Eras Tour this Tuesday (June 18), and fans are convinced her surprise song choices were a musical subtweet aimed directly at her former arch-nemesis, Scooter Braun.
In case you’ve been living under a rock, let me catch you up. Taylor, our queen of pop and lyrical shade, had a very public spat with Scooter after he scooped up her old record label, Big Machine Label Group, for a cool $300 million back in 2019. This not-so-little purchase included the master recordings of her first six albums, leading to the iconic and very pointed “Taylor’s Version” re-recordings. Talk about a plot twist!
Now, back to the drama-filled concert. Every show, Taylor likes to throw in at least two surprise songs, like she’s hosting a musical raffle. Sometimes fans even get four or five surprise tracks, because why not keep them on their toes?
On this particular Tuesday in Cardiff, Taylor decided to serve up a sizzling combo of “I Forgot That You Existed” and “This Is Why We Can’t Have Nice Things.” Oh, did I mention it was Scooter’s birthday and just a day after he announced he was hanging up his music management hat? The timing was so impeccable you’d think Taylor moonlights as a clockmaker.
Fans, of course, had a field day with this. They took to social media faster than you can say “Bad Blood” to share their reactions. Check out some of their hilarious responses below!
It looks like Taylor’s still got it, and by “it,” I mean the ability to throw shade so subtly that you almost need sunglasses just to hear it. Stay tuned, Swifties—who knows what lyrical surprises she has in store next!
