Ryan Reynolds, the king of sarcasm and ad-libbed one-liners, has found a new target for his playful banter: Jonathan Bailey. And the reason? Well, apparently, Bailey’s sin is being too perfect. Somebody stop this man before he accidentally solves world peace.
The 48-year-old Deadpool star turned up at the 2025 National Board of Review Gala on Tuesday night (January 7) to heap praise on the movie Wicked, which bagged the title of Best Movie of 2024. But leave it to Ryan to turn a heartfelt tribute into an impromptu roast.
While onstage, Reynolds delivered a speech about the film but couldn’t resist throwing some lighthearted shade at Bailey, whose portrayal of Fiyero has audiences swooning like it’s 2004 and he’s the lead in a Nicholas Sparks adaptation.
“I have one note,” Ryan began, surely sending Jonathan’s PR team into a mild panic. “We all agree that Jonathan Bailey is objectively perfect. Maybe a little too perfect. Personally, I’d have liked fewer scenes of him being, well, amazing.”
Reynolds, Turning Compliments Into Comedy Gold
But he didn’t stop there. No, no—this is Ryan Reynolds we’re talking about. He leaned into the absurdity like a cat knocking over a wine glass.
“Being good is great,” he deadpanned. “But being great is bad. You can’t just prance around spraying charisma all over an audience like a human sprinkler system. Sure, it feels nice now, but think about the industry! We could collapse under the weight of Jonathan Bailey’s perfection.”
Ryan then took a moment to form what could only be described as an imaginary union grievance: “The Hollywood Leading Man Society (HLMS) simply cannot handle this level of excellence. It’s unsustainable. For the love of our collective egos, Jonathan, tone it the f-ck down.”
“Plastic Surgery Scares Me, Johnny”
As if Hollywood’s metaphorical HR department wasn’t sweating enough, Ryan added, “I cannot work harder than I already do. And plastic surgery terrifies me, Johnny. Let’s just pump the talent brakes or, I don’t know, get the f-ck out of town.”
In case you’re wondering if Ryan is serious, he’s absolutely not. But let’s be real: if Jonathan Bailey had an “off” button for his talent, charm, or cheekbone structure, we’d all file a formal complaint for not using it sooner.
Moral of the story? Ryan Reynolds is here to keep Hollywood humble, one overly talented Brit at a time. Or maybe he’s just bitter because Jonathan makes us question if Deadpool’s mask is hiding more than his skin. Either way, we’re eating it up.
