Reese Witherspoon’s love life just added a new episode!
Last night, September 4, the 48-year-old queen of courtroom comedy, known for her legendary role in “Legally Blonde,” was spotted strolling hand-in-hand with Oliver Haarmann, a private-equity wizard whose expertise is apparently in making money and, apparently, holding hands with Reese. They were at the ritzy Assouline store opening in New York City, which, based on the number of exclamation points you can imagine, is an event for people who think a book is a status symbol.
Reese, rocking a classic short-sleeved black dress, looked like she was ready for a high-powered board meeting or a low-key night out, depending on the angle of the paparazzi shots. Oliver, on the other hand, went for the “I’m important, but not too important” look with a navy blazer over a light blue shirt and khakis that screamed “I could close a deal, but first, let’s check out some fancy books.”
Post-event, a source (who, let’s face it, might be a really chatty waiter) revealed that Reese and Oliver are “casually” dating. Translation: They’re enjoying each other’s company without scheduling weekly marriage counseling sessions.
The dynamic duo has been seen around NYC more than some tourists. After their first outing in late July, the word on the street was that they were “just friends” and Reese was “taking things slow,” which, given New York’s love for dramatic headlines, probably meant they were just getting to know each other between croissant bites.
In case you’re wondering about Oliver’s credentials, he’s not only a minority co-owner of the NHL’s New York Islanders but also a founding partner of Searchlight Capital—so yes, he can probably buy and sell you, but he chooses to hold hands with Reese instead.
Reese’s recent history with her ex, Jim Toth, ended in 2023, so if you see her twirling around town with Oliver, just know she’s adding some new chapters to her story—preferably with fewer courtroom dramas and more stylish book openings.
