Maria Shriver is getting real about her divorce from Arnold Schwarzenegger, and let’s just say—it was messier than a toddler with a bowl of spaghetti.
The 69-year-old journalist spilled the tea in her new memoir, I Am Maria, where she detailed just how much her marriage’s grand finale rocked her world.
“My twenty-five-year-long marriage blew up. It broke my heart, it broke my spirit, and honestly, it broke my Wi-Fi connection for a while because I just couldn’t function,” she wrote.
“I was drowning in grief and doing laps in a pool of confusion, anger, fear, sadness, and anxiety. I didn’t know who I was anymore. Was I Maria Shriver? Was I a new character in The Terminator? Who knew?! All I knew was—it was brutal, and I was terrified,” she added.
Maria and Arnold tied the knot back in 1986, and over the years, they built a family empire, including their four kids: Katherine (35), Christina (33), Patrick (31), and Christopher (27).
Then, in 2011, the real-life plot twist no one saw coming (except maybe Arnold) happened—he confessed to having an affair with house staffer Mildred Baena, which resulted in a surprise fifth child, Joseph Baena. Cue the world collectively saying, Wait… what?!
Maria, understandably, filed for divorce that same year. But in true Hollywood fashion, this breakup saga took longer than Avatar sequels to wrap up. The divorce wasn’t finalized until 2021—yes, a full decade later. That’s longer than some celebrity marriages last in total.
While it may have been a wild ride, Maria has come out the other side stronger, wiser, and, most importantly, with Wi-Fi fully restored.
