Just when you thought John Wick had finally earned the right to take a nap—BOOM—he’s back, baby!
Lionsgate dropped the mother of all bombshells at CinemaCon on April 1 (and no, this ain’t a prank): Keanu Reeves is officially returning for John Wick 5 because, let’s be real, the man just won’t stop until every bad guy on the planet has been professionally wrecked.
But wait, there’s more!
If a fifth John Wick movie wasn’t enough, the Wickiverse is EXPANDING. We’re talking:
🔥 An animated prequel (because, obviously, assassins deserve cartoons too).
🔥 A Donnie Yen spinoff movie about Caine, proving that sunglasses, swords, and swagger are all you really need in life.
More Badass Women Kicking Butt? Yes, Please!
Also on the horizon: Ballerina, starring Ana de Armas, dropping on June 6. This flick follows Eve Macarro, a ballerina-turned-assassin. (Because why settle for pirouettes when you can throw in a headshot, right?)
Ana got real about the intense training:
“For Bond, I only had three weeks of training. Ballerina was a whole other level. This is by far the most physical and challenging thing I’ve ever done.”
Translation: If you thought John Wick was scary, wait until you see a ballerina absolutely demolish a room full of bad guys in pointe shoes.
Caine’s Getting His Own Movie!
Donnie Yen, a human cheat code for coolness, is back as Caine, the blind-but-still-deadlier-than-you assassin from John Wick 4. Not only is he starring, but he’s also directing and executive producing.
The plot? Caine, now free from the High Table, presumably just wants to enjoy some peace and quiet—but nah, trouble’s knocking, and it’s brought friends.
Lionsgate describes it as being “stylistically modeled on the uniquely designed action films that Yen helped make famous.”
Translation: Expect gravity-defying stunts, some slow-motion swordplay, and at least one moment where you whisper, “Damn, that was cool.”
And Now… an ANIMATED Prequel!
Because Keanu Reeves wasn’t already busy enough, he’ll be voicing John Wick in an anime-style prequel designed for mature audiences. (Translation: expect blood, guns, and maybe a sad puppy flashback.)
This one will take us back in time to when Wick completed the Impossible Task—aka when he wiped out an entire army of bad guys in one night just to earn his freedom and be with his wife, Helen. (Yeah, we all know how that worked out. RIP, Helen.)
Director Shannon Tindle (of Ultraman: Rising fame) is behind it, while Chad Stahelski, Wick’s longtime mastermind, said:
“Anime has always influenced me, and I feel John Wick is the perfect property for this medium.”
He’s right. Imagine John Wick, but with even crazier stunts, stylish slow-motion, and no laws of physics holding anyone back.
So What’s Next?
Right now, we don’t have release dates, plot details, or a Keanu Reeves-approved list of new ways to take down an enemy with a pencil. But one thing’s clear:
The John Wick universe is alive, thriving, and still kicking butt (literally).
Stay tuned. And maybe start practicing your action hero roll now—you never know when you’ll need it. 🎬🔥
