Oh boy, Katy Perry’s hit the environmental fan!
Last week, the pop princess, who’s just hitting the big 4-0, dropped her latest music video for “Lifetimes,” filmed in the Balearic Islands. Picture this: sunny beaches, glittery sand dunes, and Katy dancing like no one’s watching—except, well, the entire island’s Environment Department.
Fast forward to Tuesday (August 13, mark your calendars!), and the Environment Department of the Balearic Islands decided to crash the party with a dramatic press release. It turns out Katy’s video might’ve been filmed in an eco-no-no zone: the protected sand dunes of Ses Salines Natural Park. Oopsie daisy!
According to their announcement, the video shoot—directed by the mysterious Stillz (aka Matias Vasquez)—might have been a bit too much for the beach. The Department is now investigating if Katy’s sandy boogie led to any damage. I mean, who knew dancing could cause such a ruckus?
In the video, Katy’s seen grooving around the roped-off sand dunes on S’Espalmador island. The ropes are there for a reason—kind of like an “Authorized Personnel Only” sign, but fancier and with more beach vibes.
The Environment Department clarified that filming isn’t exactly an “environmental crime,” just a teensy-weensy “infringement.” They also mentioned that with the right paperwork, you can film wherever you want—except where Katy Perry’s been caught, apparently.
So far, Katy hasn’t put on her environmentalist hat and commented on the investigation. Guess we’ll have to wait and see if she’s got a new track about saving the dunes coming soon!
