Josh O’Connor, the dashing lad from Challengers, has officially hit the career jackpot, scoring a golden ticket to join Steven Spielberg’s newest sci-fi extravaganza. Yes, that Steven Spielberg, the man who gave us dinosaurs, aliens, and Harrison Ford punching Nazis like it’s a hobby.
Word on the Hollywood street (and by that, we mean The Hollywood Reporter) is that Josh, 34, is suiting up for the 77-year-old directing legend’s next big project. The movie, which is currently untitled but clearly already brag-worthy, is being whispered about like the hottest secret in town. Rumor has it this is one of those “event films,” which basically means: mark your calendars, because Spielberg is coming for our wallets and our emotions.
Joining Josh in this cinematic spaceship are an all-star lineup of acting powerhouses: Colman Domingo (who might out-charisma everyone), Emily Blunt (queen of everything), Colin Firth (Mr. Darcy in space?), and Eve Hewson (yes, Bono’s daughter, but also a rising star in her own right). With a cast like this, the set is going to feel less like a workplace and more like an Oscars pre-party.
The script, cooked up by Spielberg’s longtime collaborator David Koepp, promises the usual sci-fi chaos and brilliance. These two are basically the Batman and Robin of blockbuster screenwriting, having already teamed up for Jurassic Park (iconic), War of the Worlds (terrifying), and Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull (okay, let’s just say it happened).
Universal Pictures has staked out a May 15, 2026, release date, giving us plenty of time to speculate wildly about plot details. Will it feature aliens? Time travel? A CGI Colin Firth doing backflips? Whatever it is, we’re ready to throw popcorn money at it.
Oh, and just in case you thought Josh was done winning this year, think again. He’s also set to appear in the next Knives Out movie, ominously titled Wake Up Dead Man! (which sounds like something Daniel Craig’s Benoit Blanc would mutter while solving another absurdly glamorous murder).
Josh O’Connor: taking over Hollywood one prestige project at a time, and we’re just lucky to watch. Spielberg, take it away!
