Joe Jonas is back with a banger (his words, probably) and dropped his new single “What This Could Be” after a little social media teasing—because who doesn’t love a bit of suspense? The 35-year-old heartthrob unleashed his latest tune on Friday (October 4th) after co-writing it with the ultra-cool Feist and Grammy-winning producer Dan Nigro. Oh, and yeah, Dan also produced it, because Joe’s got that Grammy-level taste, obviously.
But wait! Before you throw your hands up in musical joy, we’ve got a plot twist. Joe, being the perfectionist we all know and love, just announced that his second solo album Music For People Who Believe In Love (wow, could the title get any longer?) is being… drumroll… delayed indefinitely.
Yes, you read that right. Indefinitely. Which in music industry terms could mean next week, next year, or whenever Mercury gets out of retrograde and his creative juices flow again.
Joe gave fans the good news/bad news on Instagram, saying, “Wow, the love for What This Could Be really makes me smile 😊.” (Insert a warm fuzzy feeling here.) “So I’m going to make it my new single and put it out October 4th 💃.” Clearly, he’s feeling all the good vibes—and maybe the 💃 emoji means there will be dancing involved? Just a thought.
But then he hits us with the classic artist move: “That being said… the album is gonna come out later now because I’m flooded with inspo and want to add some final touches.” Translation: Joe’s got more vibes to polish up. Artists, am I right? Anyway, he wraps it up with a cheeky “Hehe anyways enjoy the new song Oct 4th – you’re all the best!” And yes, Joe, you are cheeky.
Originally, the album was supposed to drop October 18th, but, well, that plan is now lost in the abyss. So, until further notice, we shall wait, as patient as a Jonas fan can be.
In the meantime, Joe’s currently hopping around Europe on the rescheduled Jonas Brothers world tour—Celebrating Five Albums, because three wasn’t enough and, hey, why not celebrate ALL of them?
As for the new single, What This Could Be follows hot on the heels of his earlier releases, “Work It Out” and “Thick Of It All,” a collab with Alan Walker and Julia Michaels. Clearly, Joe’s keeping busy while he takes his sweet, sweet time on that album.
So, want to hear Joe’s latest creation? Check out “What This Could Be,” and let’s all collectively cross our fingers for that album to arrive before 2050.
