TRON is back and it brought Jared Leto with it—like a futuristic houseguest who accidentally downloaded himself into your living room.
Disney just dropped the first trailer for TRON: Ares, and let’s just say… Jared Leto is no longer just walking red carpets dressed like a sentient chandelier—he’s now an elite computer program with a mission. Plot twist: he’s also a fashion-forward digital being named Ares, and he’s officially escaped from the computer to ruin—I mean, save—the real world.
🤖 Plot Vibes:
So what’s TRON: Ares even about? Imagine if your WiFi became self-aware and tried to take over brunch. It’s basically that. Ares (aka Jared “Digital Jesus” Leto) is a super-advanced AI program who gets beamed out of the Grid and into our world like it’s the world’s glitchiest Zoom call. He’s got a mission, it’s dangerous, and no, rebooting won’t help.
This marks the third movie in the TRON franchise. The OG dropped back in 1982 (back when computers were the size of minivans), and the sequel TRON: Legacy hit theaters in 2010, giving us glowing suits and Daft Punk vibes we’re still recovering from. Now it’s 2025, and the franchise is back like it never learned how to log off.
🧑🚀 Cast of Cool Nerds:
Besides Leto doing his best impression of a USB stick with feelings, the movie features:
– Jeff Bridges, who’s basically the Gandalf of the Grid
– Greta Lee, our fave from Past Lives, now presumably uploading trauma
– Evan Peters, the human equivalent of a glitchy GIF
– Hasan Minhaj, who will probably explain AI to us with hilarious metaphors
– Jodie Turner-Smith, here to serve looks and possibly justice
– Arturo Castro, Cameron Monaghan, and Gillian Anderson, who probably knows more about aliens than the rest of us combined
Directed by Joachim Rønning, who clearly woke up and chose “glowstick action thriller,” the film looks like a neon fever dream where your computer’s worst fears come true—and then dance.
🕶️ Teasers, Trailers, and Total Chaos
Jared and Jeff gave fans a little taste at CinemaCon 2025 in Las Vegas, which is honestly the only place one should announce, “Hey, I’m a computer now.”
