Eminem is kicking off the VMAs like a fireworks display at a New Year’s Eve party!
Picture this: the 51-year-old rap god bursts onto the stage like he’s just escaped from a giant box, because that’s basically what happened. He delivered a mind-blowing performance of his new jam “Houdini” at the 2024 MTV Video Music Awards, which took place on Wednesday (September 11) at the UBS Arena in Elmont, New York. If you missed it, well, you missed a whole lot of energy and a lot of wig-related shenanigans.
Eminem, sporting a dazzling blonde Slim Shady wig that could only be described as “I’m a magical rapper now,” trotted onto the stage with a group of backup dancers who seemed to be in on the wig-themed gag. The wig came off faster than you can say “Abracadabra,” and Eminem swapped it out for a black baseball cap as if to say, “Surprise! I’m still the same old Slim Shady, just with less hair!”
Then he launched into “Somebody Save Me,” which made everyone in the audience wonder if they’d accidentally walked into a musical wizardry school. And as if that wasn’t enough, Eminem has managed to rack up a whopping eight VMA nominations tonight! That’s right, eight! He’s up for Video of the Year, Best Hip-Hop, Best Direction, Best Editing, Best Visual Effects, and Song of Summer for “Houdini.” Plus, he’s also in the running for Artist of the Year and VMAs Most Iconic Performance for his epic mash-up of “The Real Slim Shady” and “The Way I Am” from way back in 2000.
So, buckle up, because if Eminem’s VMAs performance was any indication, this is going to be one wild ride!
