In today’s episode of “Wait, What Timeline Are We In?” — Donald Trump and Melania Trump pulled up to Pope Francis’ funeral like it was the Met Gala but for extreme solemn vibes.
The 78-year-old former President (yep, still kicking it in spray tan and Diet Coke energy) and the forever glam 55-year-old First Lady rolled into St. Peter’s Square in Vatican City early Saturday morning (we’re talking 4 A.M. early — Starbucks wasn’t even open yet).
According to CBS News, the Trumps were directed to their front row seats — because if there’s anything Donald knows how to do, it’s sit in the front row and look like he owns the place. Sitting nearby: Estonia’s President Alar Karis, King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia of Spain. Across the aisle, Finland’s President Alexander Stubb was posted up, probably wondering if he could sneak a nap behind those giant sunglasses.
Trump, being Trump, immediately started chatting up President Stubb — because why grieve quietly when you can network?
Meanwhile, Joe and Jill Biden were also there, looking classy as ever, but four rows back. (Somewhere, you just know Trump was whispering to Melania, “See? Four rows. SAD!”)
Oh, and Prince William was there too, looking like he had definitely perfected the “polite funeral small talk” face. He had a quick word with Trump — hopefully about something neutral, like the weather, and not about, you know… everything else.
Fun flashback: Trump did meet Pope Francis once before in 2017, and reports called that vibe “stiff,” which, considering it’s Donald Trump and the Pope, honestly feels like the best-case scenario. It could have been “full WWE smackdown” levels of awkward, so we’ll call that a win.
