Dax Shepard had thought he knew everything about his wife Kristen Bell… until Hollywood decided to throw a curveball right at his lips.
During an appearance at the 2024 New York Festival on October 26, Dax, 49, took a break from his Armchair Expert musings to chat about something of great national importance: Kristen’s spicy on-screen chemistry with Adam Brody in their movie Nobody Wants This. Spoiler alert: Dax’s emotions went on quite the rollercoaster, and we were all invited for the ride.
First, Dax reminisced about working with Kristen in the past, reflecting on their personal brand of chemistry—aka “married couple meets rom-com disaster.”
When asked if he and Kristen had “incredible chemistry” on set, Dax didn’t exactly roll out the compliments. “Eh, not as good as her and Brody,” he confessed, casually dropping a comedic grenade that had everyone in stitches.
And then things got even juicier. Dax launched into a hilarious commentary about the kiss between Adam, 44, and Kristen. He described the scene like a man who just realized he’s been playing checkers while his wife was out there playing 4D chess. “My friend, we watched that scene together—the kiss! I swear, it’s the best kissing scene ever put on film. Ever.” He sounded like he had just discovered a new element on the periodic table—Kristenium: dangerously affectionate under specific Brody conditions.
And just when you thought he couldn’t take the awkwardness up another notch, Dax shared how his childhood buddy Aaron added fuel to the fire. “Aaron looked at me, dead serious, and goes, ‘Wait, does she ever kiss you like that?’” Cue Dax realizing, mid-interview, that he had been missing out on his wife’s A-list lip game. “Nope. Not once,” Dax admitted, sounding like a man who had just realized he’d been served cold Pop-Tarts his whole marriage.
The plot twist? “I didn’t even know she could kiss like that!” Dax exclaimed, like a dude who just found out his goldfish can do backflips when the right person feeds it.
One thing’s for sure—this revelation is going to make date night movies at the Shepard-Bell household way more interesting. Here’s hoping Dax gets a Brody-level make-out scene sometime soon. Or, you know, at least a kiss on the cheek that doesn’t feel like a roommate goodbye.
