Cooper Koch, the 28-year-old star of Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story, is cooking up a killer idea – literally. Spotted at the Academy Museum Gala on Saturday night (October 19) in Los Angeles, Cooper let it slip that he’s eyeing a role that would have Christian Bale raising a well-manicured eyebrow.
Drumroll, please… Cooper wants to be Patrick Bateman, the American Psycho himself. Yep, he’s ready to channel his inner Wall Street psycho, throw on a raincoat, and take an axe to… um, metaphorically speaking. Or is it? 👀
Apparently, Luca Guadagnino (the genius behind Call Me By Your Name and Bones and All) is this close to signing on to direct a fresh take on the classic satirical thriller, according to Deadline. And just to clear things up – it’s not a “remake” of the 2000 movie where Christian Bale gave us the most intense business card showdown of all time. No, this is a whole new adaptation of Bret Easton Ellis’s original 1991 novel, courtesy of Scott Z. Burns (who’s probably somewhere writing wildly right now).
When asked about the idea, Cooper was all in:
“Luca’s doing American Psycho, so I think I can do Patrick Bateman,” he said with a level of confidence that screams, “Someone get this man an axe!”
He then added, “I haven’t played a serial killer yet, so I think I could do it.” You know, like it’s a normal Tuesday kind of thing. 🌝
Cooper kept the energy high, teasing that Hollywood is knocking on his door post-Monsters success. “Things are coming in, things are moving, things are happening,” he said, sounding like he’s juggling five Hollywood projects and a fantasy football league all at once. “Taking meetings, and the needle is threading…” Threading what exactly? A murder suit, perhaps? Who knows! But hey, nothing’s confirmed yet – the world of showbiz is just a beautifully chaotic waiting game.
And as for Cooper’s movie pick of the year? He gave that honor to Luca’s film Challengers. Good taste, right? Of course, if the Bateman thing works out, Cooper might soon be starring in someone else’s favorite movie of the year.
One thing’s for sure: Cooper is on the prowl for his next big gig, and if it involves playing a deranged, Huey Lewis-loving finance bro… well, we’re already buying tickets.
