Bill Maher, the sharp-tongued host of Real Time With Bill Maher, is contemplating whether he’s ready to ditch the late-night political circus after more than two decades—and guess who’s driving him to the brink? Yup, the orange elephant in the room, Donald Trump.
The 68-year-old comedian, who’s been serving us piping-hot political takes for over 20 years on HBO, says he’s officially over it. “I mean, how many ways can you call a guy a con man before it feels like you’re just rerunning old jokes?” Maher lamented on his podcast, Club Random—which, by the way, sounds like the name of a bar where your drunk uncle tries to explain crypto.
Bill went on to remind everyone that he was basically the OG Trump roaster. “I was out here yelling, ‘He’s a mafia boss!’ when everyone else was still calling him a reality TV star. I was like Nostradamus in a blazer predicting his refusal to concede. And now? I’m stuck watching this guy boomerang back into the news cycle like a bad sequel no one asked for.”
But it’s not just the political déjà vu that’s wearing him out. Apparently, Trump’s been hate-watching Real Time like it’s his favorite guilty pleasure. “Every week, he’s out there tweeting, ‘Low ratings loser!’” Maher said. “First of all, thanks for the free promo, buddy. Second, if I’m such a loser, why are you still watching? Pick a lane!”
Despite his exasperation, Bill’s locked into his HBO gig until at least 2026, thanks to a recent renewal. That means even if he decides to pull the plug, we’ll still get two more seasons of him dissecting the madness of our world—assuming he doesn’t just spend every episode live-streaming himself stress-eating popcorn while watching the news.
For now, Maher seems stuck in a dilemma: quit and let Trump dominate the airwaves unchallenged, or keep going and risk becoming the human equivalent of a broken record. Either way, one thing’s for sure—he’s not bored of being funny. Just bored of Trump. And honestly, who isn’t?
