We’re diving into a topic spicier than a jalapeño smoothie: Carrie Underwood’s extremely talked-about performance at Donald Trump’s inauguration. Yep, it happened. Some fans cheered, some fans cried, and others probably just went back to scrolling through their phones while waiting for their Uber Eats order.
Now, American Idol showrunner Megan Michaels Wolflick is breaking her silence on the whole situation – and let’s just say she’s handling it like a PR pro who’s been through one too many media firestorms.
“That was her decision,” Wolflick told IconicHipster.com, probably while mentally preparing for Twitter (sorry, X) to do its thing.
She then went on to play the best card possible in an interview: the neutral, “but look at the bigger picture” move.
“Katy Perry, who was a judge on our show, sang at the last inauguration as well, so isn’t that great that two American Idol judges sang at the last two inaugurations?” she added, basically saying, “See? It all balances out. Yin and yang. Democracy and reality TV. Everybody wins.”
Oh, and let’s not forget the iconic J.Lo, another Idol alum, who took the stage at Biden’s inauguration in 2021. Because if an event involves a microphone, you know Jennifer Lopez is going to be there, serving vocals, choreography, and at least one dramatic wind-blown hair moment.
As for Carrie’s performance, things got a little dicey when technical difficulties hit, forcing her to sing “America the Beautiful” a capella. (Translation: No backing track, no safety net, just raw vocal cords and pure courage.)
“She held her own, and she remained cool, calm, and collected,” Wolflick said, clearly giving Carrie the Idol-shaped gold star for professionalism. “And I think a lot of that has to do with Idol and all of her live experience.”
In other words, when life hands you a microphone that isn’t working, you channel your inner American Idol winner and belt it out anyway.
And that, is showbiz. 🎤
