Will Smith just dropped the mic on the feels train with a heartfelt shout-out to his late buddy Donald Sutherland, and it’s got everyone reaching for the tissues (or a box of donuts, no judgment here).
In a tear-jerking Instagram post, Will shared two epic throwback photos from their time on the set of “Six Degrees of Separation.” The dynamic duo was clearly having a blast, probably plotting world domination or at least where to find the best craft services table.
“Rest in Peace, Donald,” Will wrote, dropping the hammer of nostalgia right on our hearts. Sutherland, who was 88, passed away on June 20 after a gnarly bout with a persistent illness. Seriously, 88 years? This guy was the Keith Richards of acting!
Donald Sutherland’s resume reads like the ultimate Netflix binge-watch list. From waltzing around in “Pride and Prejudice” to winning Oscars in “Ordinary People,” freaking everyone out in “Invasion of the Body Snatchers,” and ruling dystopian futures as President Snow in “The Hunger Games,” he basically lived the dream (minus the dystopia, we hope).
Meanwhile, Kiefer Sutherland, who inherited his dad’s talent and a double dose of gravitas, posted his own tribute. He shared a black-and-white pic of the two of them, looking like they just solved world peace or at least figured out how to beat level 347 of Candy Crush.
“With a heavy heart, I tell you that my father, Donald Sutherland, has passed away,” Kiefer wrote. “He was basically the MVP of Hollywood. He took on any role, whether it was Shakespeare or sci-fi. He loved what he did, and did what he loved, and honestly, who can ask for more? A life well lived.”
Grab a cup of something comforting and raise a toast to Donald Sutherland: actor, legend, and the coolest President Snow that Panem ever saw. Rest easy, Donald, and thanks for all the memories (and the movie marathons).
