Tim Walz And Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez Comment On Tony Hinchcliffe Calling Puerto Rico An “Island Of Garbage” At Trump Rally

Buy Me A Coffee

Governor Tim Walz and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez sat down like two best friends on a Sunday afternoon to watch a live stream of Donald Trump’s Madison Square Garden rally. Spoiler alert: things got spicy!

During the show, a comedian named Tony Hinchcliffe—who I can only assume is auditioning for the role of “most tone-deaf human”—decided to drop a zinger about Puerto Rico, calling it a “floating island of garbage.” Yikes! I mean, why not throw in a “Your mama” joke while you’re at it, right?

As you can imagine, Walz didn’t just sit there twiddling his thumbs. He leaped into action faster than a kid when the ice cream truck rolls by, exclaiming, “Who is that jackwad? Who is that guy?” Apparently, he was looking for the nearest comedy club to throw Hinchcliffe out of.

Then came Walz’s mic-drop moment, where he reminded everyone that Puerto Ricans are U.S. citizens who pay taxes and serve in the military at a rate that could make Captain America weep with pride. That’s right, don’t mess with a Minnesotan who’s got a thing or two to say about his fellow citizens!

AOC didn’t hold back either, chiming in with, “It’s super upsetting to me.” Talk about a total mood killer! She urged everyone to realize that when someone calls Puerto Rico floating garbage, it’s not just a joke—it’s like an unsolicited review of a restaurant you never wanted to hear.

Later, Hinchcliffe, perhaps thinking he was starring in his own reality show, hopped onto X (formerly Twitter) to defend himself. He grumbled that “these people have no sense of humor,” implying that a vice presidential candidate analyzing his joke was a wild concept. “I love Puerto Rico and vacation there,” he said, which is a bit like saying, “I’m not racist; I have a black friend.”

Needless to say, the internet didn’t hold back, and Hinchcliffe is now facing more backlash than a bad haircut. So, what have we learned today? If you’re going to roast Puerto Rico, you better be prepared for a hot serving of justice from the likes of Tim Walz and AOC!
