The Weeknd (aka Abel Tesfaye when he’s feeling fancy) is officially taking his talents to the big screen, and by the looks of it, he’s about to lose his entire mind right before our very eyes. The trailer for his upcoming movie Hurry Up Tomorrow just dropped, and let’s just say… someone get this man a nap and a therapist ASAP.
In this cinematic rollercoaster, Abel plays a musician suffering from a case of chronic no-sleep-itis (relatable) who somehow ends up on a wild adventure with a mysterious stranger. But instead of, you know, just going to bed like a normal person, he embarks on an existential crisis that makes even his After Hours character look stable.
Joining him in this emotional spiral are Hollywood darlings Barry Keoghan and Jenna Ortega, because apparently, watching The Weeknd mentally unravel isn’t entertaining enough on its own.
This psychological thriller comes courtesy of director Trey Edward Shults, known for other “uh-oh, things are getting dark” films like Waves and It Comes at Night. So yeah, expect some serious mind-bending, heart-pounding drama when Hurry Up Tomorrow hits theaters on May 16.
Oh, and did we mention the film is inspired by The Weeknd’s music? His brand-new album, which literally just dropped, serves as the soundtrack to this madness and also marks the end of his trilogy that started with After Hours. Yes, it’s the final chapter of The Weeknd’s long, emotional breakup with himself.
Will Abel Tesfaye survive his own movie? Will he finally take a nap? Find out when Hurry Up Tomorrow arrives in theaters! Until then, check out the trailer below—just maybe don’t watch it before bed.
