Sydney Sweeney, aka Hollywood’s busiest blonde who hasn’t cloned herself (yet), just said “why not” to another project — and this one sounds like it came straight out of a chaotic dream and/or a Comic-Con fever dream. According to Variety, Sydney has been cast as the lead in director Jon M. Chu’s upcoming movie adaptation of the video game Split Fiction. And get this — she’s also executive producing it, because apparently acting and being gorgeous just wasn’t enough.
Chu, known for turning every musical into a cinematic spectacle and for being on a mission to adapt literally everything ever written, is directing this wild ride. The script will be written by the dynamic duo behind Deadpool & Wolverine — Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick — which means we’re probably in for a screenplay that’s equal parts action, sarcasm, and existential breakdowns. (So, like Tuesday.)
Now, what is Split Fiction, you ask? Picture this: two authors, Mio and Zoe, get yeeted into their own fictional worlds — which is kind of every writer’s dream and nightmare. The game itself is a co-op adventure filled with split-screen chaos, platforming puzzles, and each character having their own funky powers. It’s like Inception meets Mario Kart, but with more emotional damage.
No word yet on whether Sydney will play Mio or Zoe — but either way, someone’s getting sucked into a fantasy land with very questionable logic and probably a dragon.
Meanwhile, Jon M. Chu is booked and blessed. Not only is he working on this genre-hopping fever dream, but he’s also juggling:
– Wicked: For Good (yes, it’s still happening),
– a Dr. Seuss adaptation (Oh, The Places You’ll Go! — spoiler alert: one of those places is probably the movie set),
– a Britney Spears memoir-to-movie transformation (The Woman in Me, aka the emotional rollercoaster we’re not ready for),
– AND Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, because apparently he wants to corner the market on musicals, nostalgia, and emotional catharsis.
Sydney, on the other hand, is out here collecting film credits like Thanos collected Infinity Stones. She’s got:
– The Housemaid, which we assume involves at least one haunted hallway,
– a Christy Martin biopic where she throws punches and probably some shade,
– a Gundam live-action movie — because yes, she’s going to space with giant robots now,
– and Echo Valley on Apple TV+, which sounds peaceful but is probably the opposite.
Oh, and casual reminder: she’s also filming the third and final season of Euphoria, where she’ll probably cry glitter and cause drama we will never emotionally recover from.
So yes, Sydney Sweeney and Jon M. Chu are teaming up for a cinematic dive into the multiverse of madness that is Split Fiction — and honestly? We’re already buying popcorn.
