Sydney Sweeney is adding yet another gig to her already-overflowing plate! Seriously, does this woman ever sleep?
The 27-year-old actress is set to star in and produce a brand-new film based on a Reddit short story—because Hollywood has officially run out of ideas. The story, originally posted four years ago by a high school English teacher (because grading papers wasn’t draining enough), is now getting the big-screen treatment, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
And get this—Oscar-winning Forrest Gump writer Eric Roth is penning the script. Yes, the man behind “Run, Forrest, run!” is now writing about scamming families for cash. We love range!
The film is based on Joe Cote’s short story, “I Pretended to Be a Missing Girl So I Could Rob Her Family.” (A title so straightforward it deserves an A+ for clarity.) The plot follows a young woman who shows up at a grieving family’s doorstep, claiming to be their daughter who mysteriously vanished ten years ago. But here’s the kicker—she only plans to stay one night. Just long enough to swipe some valuables and vanish into the night like a raccoon in a Gucci hoodie.
Sydney didn’t just sign on to star—she also personally brought in Eric Roth to write the script. Meanwhile, Warner Bros. snagged the rights to distribute the film, so expect this to be plastered across your streaming service of choice. She’ll also produce through her Fifty-Fifty Films banner, with the original Reddit author, Joe Cote, getting an executive producer credit—because hey, why not?
But don’t think Sydney is slowing down anytime soon. She’s got Euphoria Season 3, The Housemaid, and a Christy Martin biopic on her to-do list. At this point, she’s either an overachiever or a wizard with time travel abilities. Either way, we’re here for it.
