Queen of Cosmopolitans and Questionable Men™, Sarah Jessica Parker, is defending her TV alter ego Carrie Bradshaw — again. And this time? She’s not just walking in those Manolos. She’s standing ten toes down for every bad decision those heels have ever made.
The now 60-year-old legend (who, frankly, doesn’t look a day over “oops I bought another pair of $700 shoes instead of paying rent”) recently spilled some serious tea on Today with Jenna and Friends. And spoiler alert: she is not here for the Carrie slander.
“It’s been such a sort of extraordinary experience,” Sarah began, clearly gearing up to diplomatically justify 27 years of romantic chaos and poor judgment disguised as character development. “I try to describe it as being contractually obligated to play somebody else — be somebody else — for about 27 years, to behave in ways which would be illegal if I, as a married person with children, ways in which I would behave in the city or with men.”
Translation: “Don’t come for me when Carrie texted Big 37 times in a row and then ghosted Aidan on a cabin trip — it’s called acting, sweetie.”
And then, as if that wasn’t enough wisdom from the Patron Saint of Emotional Whiplash, Sarah gave a shoutout to the series’ longtime showrunner and drama enabler, Michael Patrick King.
“I feel like I have such implicit trust and faith in Michael Patrick and his extraordinary writing staff that, though decisions sometimes, I recognize, might be controversial or give people grief or have people have very big feelings, it’s incredibly fun to do. So I really love it,” she said.
In other words: yes, Carrie might’ve cheated, ghosted, overshared, overthought, and had zero emotional regulation. But was it fun? Absolutely.
So before you judge Ms. Bradshaw for choosing men who belong in a museum of red flags, just remember — she did it all for the drama. And the HBO Max check. Mostly the drama, though.
Catch Season 3 of And Just Like That premiering May 29 on Max — where more fabulous outfits and poor life choices await.
