Country music star Sam Hunt just took a detour from the honky-tonk to the county courthouse, and it wasn’t for a concert.
The 40-year-old singer of Country House (which now sounds ironic, considering his latest pit stop was the Big House) got himself pulled over on January 20th in Henderson County, Tennessee. Why? Oh, just a casual case of speeding and interlock device shenanigans.
Now, for those unfamiliar with interlock devices, they’re essentially tiny robot nannies that make sure you’re sober before driving—aka, the “Don’t Drink and Vroom” machine. Sam was supposed to be playing nice with his, but apparently, he wasn’t following the rules. 🚨
According to TMZ (because of course it was TMZ), Sam got pulled over for going a little too fast and, whoops, violating the interlock agreement. But don’t worry—he didn’t spend the night in the slammer! After a $1,500 “Oopsie” fee, he was back in action the same day.
A spokesperson for Sam assured the world that there will be no official charges for the interlock violation(lucky guy!) and that his lawyer worked some magic in court. However, the speeding ticket? Oh yeah, that one’s sticking around like a bad country breakup song.
Now, why did Sam have this interlock device in the first place? Well, that’s thanks to his 2019 DUI arrest in Nashville, when he made what he later admitted was a “poor and selfish decision.” (Translation: “Oops, my bad, won’t do it again.”)
As for his music career, Sam’s been keeping things quiet since dropping his Locked Up EP in April 2024—which, let’s be honest, now has a much funnier title in hindsight. His last tour wrapped up last fall, and while we don’t know when he’s hitting the road again, we can confirm that when he does, he’ll be driving the speed limit. 🚗💨
