So, Ryan Murphy, aka the guy who can turn literally anything into a TV show, has responded to Erik Menendez, one-half of the famous (infamous?) Menendez brothers. These guys didnβt just make headlines for their 1989 family spat in Beverly Hills (and by spat, I mean they literally shot their parents), but now theyβre back in the news! Why, you ask? Oh, because Netflix just dropped a fresh, new season of Monsters, and guess whoβs in the spotlight this time? Yup, Lyle and Erik Menendez.
Now, Erikβs not exactly jazzed about this. Heβs wagging his finger at the show, saying itβs all packed with lies β like, full-on βpants-on-fireβ lies. He even threw a little shade Ryan Murphyβs way, hinting that Ryan must either be living under a rock or has no idea what actually went down back in ’89.
Ryan, of course, had a moment with ET (because where else do celebrities hash out their beef?) and basically said, βWait, what? He hasnβt even seen the show yet!β Classic move, right? Criticizing without even pressing play on Netflix. Ryan added, βDude, I get it. Itβs hard seeing your life turned into binge-worthy content. Not everyoneβs into that, I guess?β
But hereβs the kicker: Ryanβs like, βListen, about 60-65% of the show is all about the abuse they claimed they went through. We didnβt just skim over it. No, no. We gave it the spotlight, center stage, jazz hands and all! Heck, we practically gave them a second trial on-screen. Youβre welcome, Erik.β
Ryan also wanted to remind everyone that putting all this family drama on TV can get, well, tricky. Cue the βRashomonβ reference, where four people experienced the same event but had wildly different stories. Except here, two of those people are, you knowβ¦ not alive. So Ryanβs team did their homework and made sure to sprinkle in the parents’ perspective too, just for good measure.
Oh, and letβs not forget the awkward elephant in the room: the whole βare-the-brothers-way-too-closeβ thing. Ryan was like, βWe didnβt just throw that in there for funsies, okay? Vanity Fairβs Dominick Dunne had that theory out there, and weβre just doing our due diligence. Weβre showing all the angles β even the weird ones.β
Ryan Murphy, TV wizard, defending his show like itβs on trial, and Erik Menendez just trying to protect his familyβs honor β you know, whatβs left of it.
