Nicole Kidman & Sandra Bullock Call in the Big Guns for ‘Practical Magic 2’: A Sequel Nobody Saw Coming (But Now We Need)

Buy Me A Coffee

It’s official, y’all: Nicole Kidman and Sandra Bullock are reuniting for Practical Magic 2, and they’ve enlisted an old buddy to steer this magical broomstick of a sequel. And by “buddy,” we mean Academy Award-winning filmmaker Susanne Bier. Yes, they’ve gone and hired the director equivalent of a Michelin-starred chef to whip up this cinematic potion.

According to Deadline (aka the Sorting Hat of Hollywood news), Susanne Bier will be taking the helm. If her resume were a potion recipe, it’d scream “iconic.” She’s worked with Nicole on HBO’s The Undoing (you know, the one where rich people drama got a murder-y twist) and Netflix’s The Perfect Couple. Oh, and she teamed up with Sandra for Bird Box—a movie that had half the world trying to eat breakfast blindfolded.

Not only are Nicole and Sandra reprising their roles as Gillian and Sally Owens (the witchy sisters with a family curse and really great late-’90s hair), but they’re also pulling double duty as producers. Because apparently, acting, looking flawless, and mastering witchcraft wasn’t enough.

In case you missed the Practical Magic memo back in 1998, here’s a quick refresher: Gillian and Sally are two witch sisters from a family with the worst curse ever—any guy they fall in love with ends up with an expiration date faster than milk left on the counter. Naturally, hijinks (and heartbreak) ensue, all set against the dreamy backdrop of a New England town so picturesque it might as well be a Pinterest board.

While there’s no word yet on what Practical Magic 2 will be about, we can probably expect more spellbooks, sisterly bonding, and the kind of small-town drama that feels both quaint and spooky. Will they finally break the curse? Will they accidentally summon a demon while trying to make a pumpkin spice latte spell? Only time will tell.

Meanwhile, if you haven’t watched the original in a while, it’s time to dust off your VHS player (or, you know, stream it like a modern human). Until then, check out the trailer for the OG movie below and start brainstorming what spells Nicole and Sandra will cook up next!
