Nelly’s lawyer just turned up the drama dial to eleven over the rapper’s recent misadventures in Missouri.
So here’s the scoop: Nelly, the 49-year-old rap sensation, decided to drop by the Hollywood Casino in St. Charles for some high-stakes fun on Wednesday morning (August 7). Unfortunately, his casino luck ran out when the cops found some alleged ecstasy pills on him. And, just to add a cherry on top, he also got a ticket for driving without insurance. It’s like the worst combination of a Vegas jackpot and a DMV nightmare.
In response to this debacle, Nelly’s lawyer, Scott Rosenblum, took to Page Six to deliver a legal smackdown. Scott claims the whole thing is a classic case of “the officer was having a really bad day and decided to take it out on Nelly.”
According to Scott, this cop was like an overzealous hall monitor who thought it was his duty to search Nelly’s pockets after he hit a few jackpots. “Instead of just basking in the glow of Nelly’s winnings and maybe throwing him a high-five,” Scott says, “this officer decided to play Sherlock Holmes and check for warrants.”
Scott further explained that the officer’s spiel about background checks being mandatory for big winners was about as true as a unicorn sighting. Nelly had won jackpots before—some bigger, some smaller—and never once had to endure a background check. So why now?
“The search was done without probable cause,” Scott argued, “and I’m confident this case is going nowhere fast. We’ll be asking for a full investigation into this officer’s shenanigans.”
