Love is in the air (and apparently on lips) in Queens, New York, where Martin Short and Meryl Streep decided to turn up the heat and steam up the borough like a couple of hormonal teenagers at prom.
The two acting legends — and let’s be honest, potential future stars of The Real Housewives of the Arconia — were caught on camera going full soap opera with a dramatic make-out session for Season 5 of Only Murders in the Building. And by “caught,” we mean, yes, they were literally filming it, but that didn’t stop bystanders from clutching their pearls and yelling “Get a room!” (To be fair, it was very intense.)
If your memory’s foggier than Charles-Haden Savage’s detective skills without coffee, here’s the recap: Meryl’s character, Loretta Durkin, tied the knot with Martin Short’s Oliver Putnam in Season 4. But this isn’t your average fairytale ending — because right after their “I dos,” the Arconia’s beloved doorman Lester mysteriously dropped dead. Coincidence? In this show? Ha. Cute.
Meanwhile, across the street (or possibly across the block, this was Queens after all), Selena Gomez and Steve Martin rolled onto set looking like the world’s coolest UberPool gang. The trio was seen squeezed into Oliver’s hilariously retro yellow-and-orange French Peugeot 504 — a car so old it probably has a MySpace page — presumably filming some sneaky surveillance scenes. Because what’s a little murder investigation without a touch of vintage espionage and snack crumbs on the dashboard?
To sum it up: steamy kisses, suspicious deaths, and a mystery-mobile that screams “we solve crimes and we’re adorable doing it.” Season 5 is clearly not playing around.
