The queen of everything from crafting to cooking to, apparently, relationship drama, has dropped a juicy bombshell! That’s right, Martha Stewart has casually admitted that, back in the day, she cheated on her ex-husband Andrew Stewart during their marriage. Cue the shocked gasps and pearl-clutching!
For those keeping track at home, Martha and Andrew were married from 1961 until their dramatic curtain call in 1990. And now, thanks to a sneak peek from her upcoming Netflix documentary Martha, we’re all finding out that Martha has a bit more spice in her history than just cinnamon and nutmeg.
In the clip, Martha—looking as poised as ever—decided to hand out some sage wisdom to young women about dealing with cheating husbands. “Ladies, if your husband is stepping out on you, you need to pack your bags and go! He’s a walking garbage disposal in human form. Run!” A little harsh? Maybe. Accurate? Absolutely.
But wait! The producer interviewing her, apparently not one to miss an opportunity for drama, piped up like a nosy neighbor, “Uh, Martha, didn’t you have an affair too? You know, just throwing it out there.”
And with the grace of someone who could make a scandal look like a quaint tea party, Martha casually confessed, “Oh yeah, I totally did that. But let’s keep it between us. I don’t think Andy ever figured it out.” Cue the awkward pause. We’ll be over here making popcorn.
For those who don’t know, Martha and Andrew’s love story kicked off when she was a fresh-faced 19-year-old and he was a sophisticated 23-year-old. They were basically the 1960s version of a power couple—until their relationship hit the skids. After their split, Andrew went and married Martha’s former assistant because clearly, keeping things complicated is his love language. That marriage didn’t last, but don’t worry—he’s on wife number three now. Who says romance is dead?
Martha, however, hasn’t been so lucky in love since, but she’s kept herself busy becoming a cultural icon and teaching us all how to fold napkins in ways that defy physics.
In a throwback interview with People in 2020, Martha got real about her divorce, calling it “terrible,” because, plot twist, she was the first in her family to split up. “It was awful. We haven’t spoken since. Not a word. Zilch,” Martha said, probably while making a perfectly baked soufflé. “But hey, I’m a survivor. I survived marriage, childbearing, and building an empire from the ground up. And look at me now—I’m doing just fine, thank you very much.”
Martha Stewart: domestic goddess, business mogul, and, as it turns out, a little bit of a rebel. We can’t wait for the Netflix doc—popcorn and all.
