Margot Robbie, America Ferrera and Greta Gerwig Tease ‘Barbie’ Musical

Forget Barbie sequels, Margot Robbie, America Ferrera, and director Greta Gerwig are cooking up a plan to turn that pink-tastic blockbuster into a Broadway extravaganza! Picture Barbie hitting the high notes on stage – talk about a plastic fantastic dream come true!

At the 2024 Palm Springs International Film Festival Awards shindig on Thursday night (January 4), the trio spilled the beans on their whimsical idea of transforming the iconic movie into a musical, and trust us, it’s not their first rodeo in the brainstorming department.

Margot spilled the tea to ET, saying, “Trust me, this isn’t the first … this is not the first time we’ve thought of it, yeah. It’s so fun when you can turn everything into a big, crazy musical number. Everything is infinitely more fun.” Well, Margot, we couldn’t agree more – life needs more jazz hands!

Greta, the maestro of the potential Barbie musical, confessed her deep love for musicals, gushing, “I mean, nothing would make me happier. So, I would love a musical.” Picture Barbie and Ken belting out love ballads while twirling on stage – a match made in musical heaven.

America, the voice of reason (or rather, melody), chimed in, pointing out that her character Gloria from the movie likely “has a number in her.” Move over, Broadway – Gloria’s got some tunes to belt out, and we’re here for it!

And why not turn Barbie into a musical sensation? The soundtrack was already a chart-topping success, with Ryan Gosling’s toe-tapping anthem “I’m Just Ken” even scoring a Grammy nomination for Best Song Written for Visual Media. Rumor has it, even the Oscars are taking notice. Talk about Ken stealing the show – move over, Ryan, the plastic heartthrob has arrived!

The Grammys are in for a treat too, with the Barbie soundtrack strutting its stuff in categories like Best Compilation Soundtrack for Visual Media and Best Score Soundtrack for Visual Media. Billie Eilish and Dua Lipa are also in the mix, bringing their A-game to the Big Four categories. Barbie, you’ve truly become a musical sensation – pink-tastic melodies and all!
