Lily Allen is eating a big ol’ slice of humble pie this week — and honestly, it sounds like it’s a bit chewy.
So here’s the tea: after that all-female “woohoo, girlboss to the stars!” Blue Origin space flight earlier this month, Lily, 39, and her partner-in-crime on the Miss Me? podcast, Miquita Oliver, decided to pop all the balloons at the afterparty by calling the trip “so out of touch.”
Lily, armed with a full latte and zero chill, went off:
“Do we want to talk about Katy Perry and her mates all going up to space for 12 minutes?” she asked, in the tone of someone who just stubbed their toe and blames the door. “I mean, what the f–king hell is that all about? Seriously: What? Why? FOR WHY?”
And look, girl had a point:
“We’re on the brink of recession, people are legit struggling to buy a loaf of bread, and meanwhile it’s costing me $500 just to leave my apartment in New York. And I’m not even being dramatic, okay?”
(Spoiler alert: she was maybe being a little dramatic, but honestly? Mood.)
BUT THEN.
This week’s episode of Miss Me? dropped, and Lily showed up with some serious “walk of shame” energy, backpedaling like a tourist on a broken rental bike.
“So, um, about me dragging Katy Perry… my bad,” Lily confessed. “That was just my own internalized misogyny punching the air and taking the mic.”
Sis realized maybe — just maybe — it wasn’t totally necessary to throw Katy under the spaceship.
“She wasn’t the only one going yeehaw into space. It just felt easy to dunk on Katy because she’s super famous and kinda divisive. But yeah, there was absolutely no need to name-drop her like that.”
She even got reflective, the way you do after accidentally texting your boss a meme meant for your bestie.
“If someone had used my name like that, I would’ve been crying in the club, so yeah. I’m sorry, Katy.”
Lily wrapped it up with the most relatable non-apology-apology ever:
“I know you don’t listen to my little podcast, Katy. But still… sorry, girl. SORRY.”
Moral of the story: sometimes you blast off a little too hard, realize you’re a hater for no reason, and have to come back down to Earth and apologize.
