XOXO, Heaven Called First.
Leighton Meester has officially spoken up about the loss of her Gossip Girl co-star Michelle Trachtenberg, and yes, even the angels are wearing headbands in mourning.
Michelle, who played the absolute chaos tornado that was Georgina Sparks (a.k.a. Serena’s worst nightmare and our guilty pleasure), passed away back in February due to complications from diabetes mellitus. And honestly? The Upper East Side hasn’t been the same since. Starbucks sales of extra-sugary lattes dropped immediately out of respect.
In a recent Flaunt magazine interview, Leighton, a.k.a. the queen bee Blair Waldorf herself, shared her heartbreak:
“It’s devastating,” she said with a sigh so deep it probably echoed through the Met steps. “She was a wonderful, talented person, and everyone loved her. It’s very, very sad for everyone who knew her.”
We’re not crying, you’re crying—okay, maybe we’re all crying into our monogrammed silk pillowcases.
Michelle wasn’t just a scene-stealer; she was a plot-twist generator in human form. The kind of friend who’d crash your brunch, ruin your scheme, and somehow make you thank her for it. That level of talent? Iconic.
Other Gossip Girl alumni have also shared their tributes—including Penn Badgley, a.k.a. Dan “Wait, I’m Gossip Girl?!” Humphrey. After months of respectful silence (and probably a few beard trims), Penn finally joined the chorus of love for Michelle.
Truly, the Gossip Girl fam lost a legend. And while Georgina Sparks may have loved stirring drama, Michelle Trachtenberg left behind nothing but love, laughter, and maybe a few suspicious text messages signed, “You know you love me…”
Rest in peace, Queen of Chaos. The Met steps are missing a sparkle.
