We have some bittersweet news straight out of the Morphing Grid: Dave Mallow, the voice behind the delightfully bumbling Baboo in Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, has powered down for the last time.
The iconic voice actor passed away on Tuesday (March 11) in Altadena, Calif., at the age of 76. Sources confirmed that Dave was in hospice care at MonteCedro Senior Living Community.
A former colleague shared that Dave’s health had been declining in recent years, so while his passing is heartbreaking, it wasn’t exactly a “jump scare” moment.
But let’s not dwell on the sad stuff—let’s talk about his epic career! Dave wasn’t just Baboo, the Power Rangers villain who had the energy of a confused but lovable uncle at a magic show. He also lent his legendary pipes to Digimon, bringing digital monsters to life in the English dub. But wait, there’s more! He voiced characters in major video games like World of Warcraft: Legion, Tales of Vesperia: Definitive Edition, and Diablo III. Basically, if you’ve ever played a game and thought, “Hey, that voice sounds super familiar,” there’s a good chance it was Dave.
He is survived by his older sister, Marilyn, who also resides at MonteCedro. Our thoughts, prayers, and maybe a few “Go Go Power Rangers” theme song hums are with Dave’s loved ones.
RIP to a voice that will echo in our nerdy hearts forever.
